TELLING THE FENDERS

We arrived at the Killarney house (www.killarneyhouseinn.com ) <- FREE ADVERTISING , Morgan's Dad's B&B, to share the news. We gave him a book on uses for a Grandpa, but I think that confused him. When he finally figured it out he was very happy and told us that he thought we would never have kids.
We then traveled up to Asheville to have dinner with Morgan's Mom and Sister. We gave Sharon two Mary Englebriet books about being a grandmother. She was also confused until we gave Laurel her "Aunt LouLou" shirt. She then became teary eyed and began jumping around while Laurel froze in shock.

HEAD COUNT

There is only ONE!!!!!!! The baby measured perfectly and we got to see the heartbeat. As soon as I told my mother that it was only one she told me that she knew people that had twins show up at 9 weeks. So I have requested an ultrasound at week 9 to verify. More to come.

TELLING THE SMITH CLAN

Went to the Smith family reunion this weekend in Savannah. Right when we walked in Merlin (Gran's other half) told Morgan that she looked "Chunky". He must have had a sixth sense about the preganacy or at least that is what Morgan keeps telling herself. My father and Stepmother were shocked and thrilled all at the same time when they finally realized that we were making an annoucement. (Thanks Uncle Virgil) My sister needed a straight jacket to calm her excitement. We look forward to Jenny spending quality time with our new addition (Jen are you available for the month of June, 2008????) Can't wait to bring the youngest smith to the next family reunion.

MOM WALKING IN ON SEX (KIND OF)

We wanted to tell my mother face to face that we were preganant, but the timing of visits made that difficult. She and Thad came into town on June 17th to spend a few days with us. We felt like it was the right time to tell her what we had been going through and that we REALLY wanted children. We had a doctors appointment at the Southeastern Fertility Clinic on the 18th to have the first Intrauterine Insemination(IUI). Morgan had to go to work afterward, so I had my mother drop me off at the Clinic (for my deposit). She was supposed to go shopping for sweetgrass baskets, but when I came out of the back room, she was sitting in the lobby waiting with a big smile on her face. That was weird....... So congrats Mom, you were the first to know but I am scarred for life.

So when we got pregnant from the second procedure, it was ok to tell her on the phone.

POSSIBILITY OF TWINS

Morgan went to the doctor today and they retested her HCG levels. She is now at 2400.... ARGHHHHHHH....
But, that also means that the pregnancy is progressing at a normal pace.

WEEK 4

I know this sounds weird, but when you find out you are pregnant you are already on week 4. 36 more to go. Today Morgan goes to the doctor for blood tests. More poking and prodding.
Andy

One of the things they are testing for is your level of HCG (no idea what that stands for). Generally, 50-500 means pregnant, 500-2000 means pregnant with twins, 2000 and more means pregnant with more than twins! My HCG levels were 1200. When I told Andy my levels, he flipped out. I honestly don't think I have ever seen or heard him so frantic. He kept telling me that we had to go have an ultrasound ASAP!!

THE BEGINNING

After more than 25 negative pregnancy tests over the past 2 years, I refused to get out of bed to take another one only to be disappointed once again. After a year of fertility clinic visits and treatments, we were working on our second IUI after an extremely painful and difficult month. We were in Raleigh at the Hampton Inn for the Kenny Chesney concert and it was about 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and I had to pee! However, because I was refusing to go take another test, I continued to stay in bed until 9:30 dreaming of taking the test. Finally, Andy kicked me out of bed to go take it. I did my thing, put the cap back on, threw it at him and fell back in bed to go back to sleep. Next thing I hear: "hey honey, you ready to have a baby?".
